Lexington

We spent a few days of Bobby's Spring Break in Lexington (just got back yesterday). In reflection, I think it was our most stress-free, easy-going getaway yet. Maybe it was because we didn't plan much and had low expectations since the reason we were going was to research Christian Beacons in the Lexington Seminary library, and we thought it would take up most of our time there. It turns out that I'm a really good skimmer because I helped by looking through close to 10 years of Beacons and marked pages for Bobby to photocopy. So together, it only took us 5 hours! Much better than 3 days. I think we were famous by the time we left because the seminary is so small, everyone noticed us, and a girl even said to Bobby, "you were here 3 hours ago when I left. I hope you guys took a break!" of course, we did. So since that was so quick, we had lots of time to do whatever... which included going to the Kentucky Horse Park, taking several walks around downtown, visiting used book stores, shopping in a few quaint little shops, and eating yummy food! We had dinner our first night at Cheapside where we had fantastic burgers served with crunchy kettle chips. Then we had dinner Tuesday night AND lunch Wednesday at Joe Bologna's. Thanks so much for the recommendation, Katie. Obviously, we loved it!

All in all, we had a great visit to Lexington - we loved the city, its size and what it has to offer, its location, and the UK campus was beautiful too, not to mention all the beautiful horses and the farms they live on!

Happy St Patrick's Day!

After a couple years of shamrock-sitting for Joy & Abby, I finally got one of my own! I'm so excited, but I wish they were here with their green thumbs to help keep it alive.





















Here's another pretty picture I took this morning. Bobby gave me these tulips (my favorite flower) for our anniversary. They're so happy-looking!

Wedding Anniversary #5

March 15, 2008 - five years since the day we got married - it's hard to believe, yet it feels like we've been together forever.

What did we do to celebrate? Well, the first thing we did was go to a "wedding shower" at Panera Bread in Morgantown for one of Bobby's coworkers. It was really fun and about halfway through, I realized that I was the only non-WVU person there, other than a baby... oops. But they seemed fine that I was there, and everyone even gave us a round of applause when we came through the door (since they knew it was our anniversary), it was funny!

Then we decided to head north towards Pittsburgh. The only definate thing we had planned on doing was to go to our favorite specialty grocery store, Trader Joe's. And we did! All I have to say is THANK GOODNESS for TomTom (our GPS navigation thingy). The last time we tried to find TJ's it took us 2 hours, and that was from downtown Pittsburgh (TJ's is just outside of downtown). This time we got there in 90 minutes - from West Virginia!! So anyway, we shopped our little hearts out and had to take this picture to prove it.


























After that, we typed in a few restaurants into TomTom and he took us to the SouthSide Works and then finally to The Waterfront where we enjoyed good food and games at Dave & Busters. We won lots of tickets, but didn't want to wait in line to redeem them.


























Then on Sunday night, we concluded the celebration with making the youth group watch our wedding video! I think most of them liked it, but others were mildly tortured.

So overall, it was a fun day/weekend and we have a little overnighter planned for next week while Bobby is on Spring Break.

Change in weather

Two days after the beautiful weather, we are now experiencing rain, sleet, wind, and snow. You know, I love snow, but I prefer it when it is coming down vertically rather than horizontally. I just hope our satellite tv signal doesn't go out for tonight's Duke/UNC game!

Harmony

It is a beautiful day on the farm. Today was a fun day. The sun was out, the wind wasn't blowing, it wasn't snowing or raining (shocking!), and the temperature was a mild 50-something. I thought, what a nice day to walk around the farm. And oila! I got a phone call from some friends at church who wanted to come see the animals. Perfect! We had a great time... just 3 adults, 2 kids, and a gazillion animals. This morning I got to watch a herd of deer come over to the pond, and then saw them get startled by a group of swans who were chasing them away from their food. The mom & dad swan got to bring their 5 babies down to the pond for the first time today, they seemed to really like it. (the deer seemed confused though) Up in the barn, there are about 40 chickens who live in harmony with a couple horses, a few cats, some dove & quail, and a guinea hen. Then there is the rabbit who lives in a cage in the (hunting) dog kennel and doesn't seem to mind all the barking. (not to be confused with our Bunny) There are Quarterhorses with Fresians, Palaminos with donkeys, and of course, a pot-bellied pig with a bunch of dogs. Everyone seemed to be in a good mood today, the kids had a great time, the adults did too, and even the animals seemed to be happy.
